Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, first-year students at JCU will not be permitted to bring cars to campus. Exceptions will be made for students who have documented accommodations through Student Accessibility Services (SAS). For any questions or concerns, please reach out to SAS directly.

Rest assured, first-year students don't need a car on campus! JCU offers convenient transportation options, including shuttle service to popular shopping and dining locations, including Target, Whole Foods, and the Van Aken District. Rideshare options and Cleveland’s RTA (buses and trains) are also available, and JCU frequently hosts student events with free transportation provided.

Sophomores park in nearby off-site lots with shuttle access, while juniors, seniors, graduate students, and commuters can purchase passes to park on campus.

Parking Details

Below are key guidelines and requirements for ALL permit holders at JCU:

  1. Overflow Lot Usage: Main Campus, Commuter and Evening permit holders should park in the designated Overflow Lot if the main campus lots are full at any time.
  1. Offsite Permit Holders: It’s essential that you park in the lot specific to your permit. This applies to both Notre Dame and Apartment permit holders. Main Campus parking is not available on weekends or evenings unless stated otherwise.
  1. Shuttle Hours: Notre Dame permit holders are reminded to follow the shuttle hours strictly.  (Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 10:30 pm, Saturday/Sunday 12:00 pm - 11:00 pm). The live shuttle tracker can be accessed via this link: Shuttle Tracker.
  1. Visitor Permits:
    • Weekday Permits: These are available at the Main Gate House, with attendants available Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Fridays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
    • Weekend Permits: These must be reserved in advance through a student "host" at the Main Gate House. To pick up a weekend permit, ensure that you bring your JCU ID, your guest's name, and their vehicle license plate number by 4:00 pm on Fridays. Weekend permit holders are required to park in the Overflow Lot.
  1. Violation Enforcement: Parking violations are being added to your Banner account. Notifications of violations will be sent via email and left on your vehicle. You can file an appeal directly through the violation notification email.

The John Carroll University Police Department (JCUPD) is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of all persons living, working, or visiting the University. This requires considerable attention to regulating the flow of traffic and the appropriate use of parking. We have developed rules to help govern traffic and parking on University property. Adherence to these rules will facilitate the safe and efficient use of parking areas and roadways around campus.

Please read our regulations carefully. If you have questions, please email parking@jcu.edu or call the JCU Parking Office at 216-397-2277, Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or call the JCU Police Department at 216-397-1234 after hours.

Effective September 2024, updates to security at the Notre Dame Lot have been made. There have been multiple cameras installed as well as a night security guard from 11:00 pm - 6:00 am.

All visitors should enter campus through the main entrance at Fairmount Circle and pick up a visitor's permit at the Main Gate House.
